We discovered him lying on the ground, dejected and with a gaping wound on his back that had been cruelly inflicted upon him. The severity of his mistreatment was evident, but our resolve to assist him remained unshaken.

Without delay, we moved Marco to Tehran for his medical treatment where he was given the much-needed care and attention. Despite experiencing intense pain, he managed to remain silent during the trip, demonstrating immense courage and endurance. Upon reaching the destination, a veterinary expert examined him thoroughly and highlighted various concerns that required immediate attention.

Initially, the focus was on addressing the issues with Marco’s right eye, which had elevated pressure and was somewhat dehydrated. After that, steps were taken to heal his stress ulcer that resulted from a severe fungal infection, followed by addressing some old fractures. Although Marco’s recovery was gradual, it was consistent, and he began consuming warm meals after a few days of treatment, which had a positive impact on his overall well-being.

We decided to make Marco’s treatment less complicated by shaving his fur, making it easier for us to clean and dress his wounds. We were happy to see that after a few weeks of treatment, the ulcer on Marco’s skin had almost healed completely, and soon the infected skin would be gone. He was even able to have his first bath and would be neutered in a few days.

During his period of healing, Marco’s positive outlook and faith in humanity remained unshaken. Despite enduring prior cruelty, he maintained his trust and affection for people and quickly established bonds with his fellow animals at the sanctuary. His life had taken a different path, brimming with joy and affection, and we were overjoyed to witness his flourishing in his fresh surroundings.
