In the Brooklyn Cat Café, appearances are not important. This café is a safe haven for sick animals and its heartwarming story has gained popularity on the internet. Situated in Brooklyn, New York, the café was established in 2016 by Anne Levin and is operated by volunteers who selflessly attend to the needs of the fostered animals each day. Originally intended as an adoption spot for a maximum of 25 cats, the shelter quickly expanded its capacity. The café serves as an adoption center and also provides a comfortable space for patrons to enjoy a cup of coffee while bonding with the adorable felines. The Brooklyn Cat Café has since facilitated the adoption of approximately 300 homeless cats.

A little while back, a café welcomed a gorgeous kitten with a glossy black coat whom they affectionately named Ebony. The poor kitty was diagnosed with feline leukemia and couldn’t hang out with the other cats. As a result, Ebony felt quite lonely and sad. The café staff then decided to find a companion for Ebony to keep him company. They searched for a baby animal that could spend time with Ebony and make him happy. Finally, after some time, Ebony found his new best friend, a cute little white rat!
Meet Ivory, the little rat who became fast pals with an adorable kitten. Their bond was heartwarming, but sadly short-lived. Ebony fell ill and passed away just five months later. Nonetheless, the time they spent together was filled with joy and laughter, creating memories that Ivory will cherish forever.
When Ebony passed away, Ivory was left alone for a brief period. The staff then had the idea to introduce Ivory into the kitten terrarium and see how he would fare. Surprisingly, Ivory managed to make new friends quickly and was adored by all. Even the cat mothers didn’t mind him playing with their kittens.
Sadly, Ivory recently passed away after leading a long and content life. The café staff mentioned that Ivory’s absence has left a void in the place. However, Levin has now adopted two rats from the HALT rescue service, who have filled the gap left by Ivory perfectly.
According to Levin, the cats don’t seem to intimidate the rats at all, and this has resulted in a unique bond between them. He added that the rats enjoy spending time with the kittens, and Emile, in particular, takes on a paternal role by grooming and caring for them when their mothers are not around. Remy, the other rat, also shares his food with the felines and engages in playtime with them. It’s fascinating to witness such an unusual friendship between different species, and we find ourselves thoroughly entertained by their antics.
