The lady was so furious and aggressive that we thought she had never been caught by humans before. She was incredibly wild and agile, wasn’t she? The first time we heard about her, a concerned woman reached out for assistance because the poor creature was stuck in a septic tank hole, looking like a scared little kitten. It was really heart-wrenching to see her in such a state.
As I tried to rescue her, she refused to leave the water and every time I reached out to grab her, the debris would fall down and hinder my effort. To lure her in, I offered some food and she gradually began to approach me. I held my breath and hoped that she would stay put as I made my move. Finally, success! I managed to catch her in the net.
As I approached her, she let out a low and menacing growl while greedily licking her lips. Through the net that separated us, she even attempted to sink her teeth into my flesh. It was an astonishing display of aggression that made even putting her into the carrier a veritable challenge, as she persistently tried to claw her way out. Upon arriving home, we carefully unwrapped the carrier and removed the lid, only to be met with a furious and anguished feline. Her legs had gone limp, and there was no movement. It was as if they were broken the other way around. Our hearts shattered upon seeing her in such pain. We were acutely aware of what that meant and knew that the journey ahead would be riddled with obstacles.
We gave the patient some pain relief medication that helped her to feel more relaxed and comfortable. When we put her in the water, she seemed to understand that we were trying to help her and I believe she started to feel more at ease with us.
Our veterinarian recommended that we take care of our pet since she wasn’t expected to be able to walk. However, we opted to give her the opportunity to overcome this challenge since she wasn’t experiencing any discomfort. To avoid her from dragging herself around excessively, I carried her for several weeks. We helped her stretch and engaged in various exercises to encourage movement in her hind paws, and eventually, she started bending her knees. This was a clear indication that she had regained some sensation, and we cautiously began to allow her more freedom.
We created a special harness for our little one that allowed her to walk with her feet grazing the ground while we held her. One morning, we were taken aback when we heard munching sounds, and upon looking up, we saw her standing on her own. We were simply awe-struck!
Observing her effortless walking and jumping, I am amazed by her physical agility. But what truly astounds me is the emotional transformation she has undergone. Previously filled with anger, she now exudes nothing but love.
