This organization gives dogs who are scheduled to be put down a second chance at life. Biggs, unfortunately, was suffering from heart failure and now seems to be in the final stages of advanced cancer, which has made it challenging to diagnose his condition.
Even though his illness is not properly diagnosed, he has limited time left. To make the most of it, he and his foster parent are embarking on an adventure to tick off their bucket list. Some of the things on the list include taking a stroll on the beach and watching the sunset while munching on some chicken nuggets, enjoying a candlelit steak dinner, visiting a pet store and picking out a treat, having a picnic in a beautiful location, and even making an appearance in the local newspaper.
The main goal is to provide Biggs with the love and attention he deserves after leading a difficult life. Unfortunately, not all senior dogs in shelters are as fortunate as Biggs. According to the ASPCA, only a quarter of older dogs are adopted, while younger ones have a higher adoption rate of around 60%. It can also be distressing for an older dog to find themselves in a shelter when they were previously used to a familiar home environment.
According to Chasity McFarland, the Director of One By One Deathrow Dog Rescue, putting senior dogs down in a crowded shelter can lead to worsened medical problems. This is particularly true for dogs that have not received medical attention in a while and are dealing with underlying health issues. The added stress and feeling of abandonment can exacerbate these problems and cause them to become more severe.
