Meet Bijou, a cute little kitten who was saved from the streets and now has a loving family to call her own. Despite being smaller than a muffin, she is full of energy and has a bright future ahead of her.
When the National Kitten Coalition in Gainesville, VA received a litter of five kittens, including a tiny tortie who was only two days old, they were in poor condition but stable thanks to their foster. Sadly, one of them didn’t make it but the remaining four began to thrive. The smallest of the bunch, Bijou, was only 2.6 ounces when she arrived and grew more slowly compared to her brothers. By the time she reached four ounces, her growth seemed to stop. Despite this, Bijou continued to receive love and care from the National Kitten Coalition.
Bijou experienced fluctuations in weight, gaining and losing a few grams over a period of time. Various options were considered to address her situation, but the foster caregiver emphasized that as long as Bijou remained strong and at ease, she would continue to persevere alongside her.
After a period of nine weeks, Bijou’s weight was only 8.2 ounces. Despite being a “micro” kitty, she was in excellent health and was content. Many people question the need to devote so much effort and time to one kitten, given the numerous others that require assistance. However, every life is essential, and once a pledge is made, it is not abandoned, even if the path ahead is difficult, as long as the baby’s quality of life is maintained.
Despite her small size, she compensates with her huge personality. At just four months old, she surpassed the one-pound mark and weighed in at 1.6 pounds. Her size may always be tiny, but she has overcome all the obstacles thrown her way.
Bijou exemplifies the true essence of fostering – providing ample love and care that ultimately saves lives. While many kittens are not as fortunate as Bijou, a few weeks of your time can significantly impact their lives. So why not consider fostering an orphaned kitten like her?
